Introduction
Founded in 2007, Dafen Art Museum is located in Dafen Oil Painting Village, covering an area of 11,000 square meters with a total area of 21,000 square meters. In 2023, Dafen Art Museum reopened to the public after upgrading and renovation. At present, Dafen Art Museum has eight exhibition halls on the first and second floors, as well as a conference room, an academic lecture hall and a collection room.
Concept
The indoor space concept of the museum is an extension and internalization of the external architectural space overall and it tries to excavate and preserve the being of an Extraordinary Sight in every detail. The architect intends to highlight the exhibits, weaken the space and create a concise but not crude atmosphere permeated with purity, quietness and zen. In 2008, the museum was evaluated as the Best Public Building in China by the magazine of Business Weekly / Building Records.
The renovation of Dafen Art Museum is designed with the concept of “Historical Superposition and Spatial Dialogue”, optimizing the exhibition route, improving the air conditioning and lighting system, repairing the waterproof ceiling, expanding the collection space and the exhibition hall with constant temperature and humidity, greatly improving the safety and efficiency of the museum. Meanwhile, the Art Museum Square continues to build the river system of Dafen, reconstructing the charm and aftertaste of water.
Exhibition
The exhibition halls of the museum features a total floor area of 6,300㎡ and a total exhibition lines of 2,080m.
Since the establishment of Dafen Art Museum，Dafen Art Museum has held nearly 500 exhibitions, including the 1st to 4th Dafen International Oil Painting Biennale Shenzhen, the 1st to 10th National (Dafen) Exhibitions of Oil Paintings by Young and Middle-aged Oil Painters, the 1st to 3rd Oil Painting Exhibitions for the Teachers and Students in the Schools of Fine Arts in China as hosted by China Artists Association, the Oil Painting Exhibition for Contemporary Female Artists in China, and the Invitational Exhibition for Famous Contemporary Oil Painting Artists in China etc.
