William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) was a painter and the most important figure of the French academic school in the 19th century. His painting style was aesthetic and he was good at creating beautiful and idealized realms. His subjects were mostly myths, angels and fables. His representative works include “The Triumph of the Martyrs”, “Dance”, “The Young Shepherdess” and “The Birth of Venus”.
